final project in college that made up the entirety of my grade, made in unity with c#

right as i started planning my final year project i was gaining ranks fast in the rhythm game osu and also terrified that i hadn't done enough programming to get into uni for computer science, so making a rhythm game seemed like an obvious choice. i had to make it a bit arty because it was an arts school but i remember i impressed my tutor by making a mockup video of what it looked like and then after easter i came back and the game looked identical but was functional.

my initial designs were turned down and sadly those are lost to time as i never made a copy of the google drive apparently, and the site is gone too. handily for market research i used a personal youtube account, so below are some videos, including a design log! holy cow i am updating this as i write. it's not lost to time after all! still no essays about guitar hero though, sorry.

design log

the usp was sort of that the design of it was the opposite of usual rhythm games (which coming from japan are usually very maximalist). you can see the influence of osu in the menu in pretty much every iteration. the gameplay is just the same as all mania games, but there was a nifty song generation thing i managed to get working, although you had to do it before you compiled the game because i was too dumb to get unity apps to read from the local directory somehow.
